Differences between Finland and Spain by Mari Mäkelä and Jenna Petman, Jakomäen yläaste 9B

Differences between Finland and Spain
When we arrived in Spain, the first thing we noticed that was different were kisses to cheek to cheek. In Finland we never do that, we just shake hands if we want to be formal, otherwise we just say hi.
Second thing was food. We all like Spanish food even if that was very different from Finnish food. In Finland we eat more potatoes and meat, not so much sea food.
The houses in Spain were much colder than in Finland. Or maybe we just think so because the weather outside was hotter than we have here.
Here in school we have free lunch every day, but there we didn’t have it. If you wanted to eat during the school day, you had to buy something or go home to get some food.
The countries are very different, but the people are still same kind (:

These observations were made by Mari Mäkelä and Jenna Petman, Jakomäen yläaste 9B

Three German students on a school exchange to Vigo

Monday:20.04.09

At 6.43 we went by train to Leipzig. Than we flew to Palma de Mallorca. and from P. de Mallorca we flew to Porto (Portugal). Then we drove by bus to Vigo. In Vigo waited the Spanish families, and we went home with the families. Later we ate a littlebit and drank and then we went to bed.

Tuesday: 21.04.09
We met at school and we had a tour on the beaches in Vigo. Fantastic. Next we had lunch at school. In the afternoon Veronika and Vivien went with Alba and Monica to the beach (Kasssandra was shopping).

Wednesday:22.04.09
On this day we had English lessons at school and then a schoolvisit. A little bit later we went to Castrelos Park, there were Orange -and Lemon trees. We were really surprised that they had blossoms and fruits at the same time. In the afternoon Kassandra was inline - skating and Vivien, Monica, Veronika and Alba had a bowling game and they were again on the beach.
We learned that Spanish children learn inline-skating at school! It would be a nice idea for us, too.

Thursday 23.04.09.
We went with the bus to Santiago de Compostela. There we had a tour in the town and visited the Cathedral from Santiago. After this Vivien was swimming and Kassandra and Veronika ware shopping. In the evening we had a big dinner with all the children from our partner schools in Finland, Poland and the Netherlands. It was nice because the owner of the restaurant spoke German because he had lived for 20 years in Germany.
After the dinner we went in the city and it was time to say Good Bye, because our friends from Helsinki and Lublin had to leave very early on the next morning.

Friday:24.04.09

At 09.00 o´clock we met with Mrs. Schaper (our teacher) in the Hotel Galicia. Then we were in the city and then we went by taxi to the busstation. Then we drove with the bus to the airport in Porto and then we flew via Mallorca to Leipzig. We were sad that we couldn’t stay there a bit longer, but our school waited for us. About midnight we came home.

That was a wonderful week.

Meeting in Lublin, Poland - photos by Annemieke (Holland) and Kasia (Poland)

Meeting in Lublin, Poland - by Sophie from Germany

Our diary from the journey to Poland

Monday, 16.02.2009 we (Giovanna, Dominique, Frau. Schaper, Frau. Sieboth and me = Sophie) went to Lublin. The trip took about 14 hours and it seemed to be a fitness tour, because Giovanna had a really big toxic green bag. J About 22.00 we arrived in Lublin at the train station. There we met our host families and the Polish teachers.

Tuesday, 17.02.2009 we made a sightseeing tour to the old town of Lublin. Our teachers saw that there are a lot of pubs. As we had finished with the sightseeing tour we went to the print museum. After that we had a really delicious stop at McDonald’s and we were in a big shopping centre called “Lublin Plaza”.

Wednesday, 18.02.2009 we had a trip with a horse sleigh. It was funny because sometimes we almost fell out of it. ;-) After that we ate sausages and drank hot tea. Then we went to a park with a mineral water source. Later we were in Kazimierz. There we lost the rest of our group. ;-) But luckily we found them again. In evening we (with cold feet and red noses) came back to the host families.

Thursday, 19.02.2009, we visited a famous dance group of Lublin and it was really cool. Then we went to our Polish partner school. This school has got even a swimming pool, a massage room for the teachers and a fitness room. The students there have to change shoes and there is security service and there are security cameras. You can’t find any rubbish in school. Isn’t it a good idea for our school? The students wore school uniforms. In the afternoon we ate Donuts because it was “Fat Thursday”. (It’s a tradition in Poland that on the last Thursday before carnival they eat lots of Donuts ) The host families were really nice and we did lots of things. We communicated in English or with hands and feet ;-)) The students were absolutely friendly and asked lots of questions. Some of them even spoke German. Thanks a lot to the Polish students Anna and Michael who were fantastic interpreters. But unfortunately the time was over very quickly.

Trip to Germany by Spanish students

Trip to Wernigerode, Germany

On Monday, we got up at 4.30 in the morning to get our flight. In the airport, I met my friends Laura and Marina and the two teachers who came with us, Conchita and Manuel.
We arrived at Wernigerode about 20.00. Our host families were waiting for us at the train station. Then, we went to our houses, it was a really tirying day!

On Tuesday, we had to wake up early again and went by bus to Volswagen's factory in Wolfsburg and, after, to the Phaeno science museum. This evening, my host, Karo, and her best friend, Nina, took me around their village, Silstedt. They explained me lots of things about that place.

Wednesday, we went to our partner school; we had poetry workshop! Marina, Laura and I wrote an acrostic. After that, we took a look around the school and we had lunch. In the afternoon we made a rally in Wernigerode with our hosts. In the evening, we went to the bowling!!!!!! At night, all spanish students, our hosts and two germans more met in Silstedt, it was very funny only because we were together.

Thursday, last day, we took an old lovely train to the Broken, a mountain. We walked eight kilometres until the top of the mountain. It wasn't a very pleasant way because it was cold, windy and also, it was raining!! Then, we had lunch, took another train to go back to Wernigerode and we went to our hauses. This night, all students from every country went to a café and had a "goodbye party".

On Friday, we had to say goodbye, we'll miss everybody. We took a train in Wernigerode to Hannover, in one place it was even snowing!!!!! And at night, we were in Vigo; we were tired, but happy. It was one of the shortest and greatest weeks of my life. Now, we chat by msn with the other boys and girls :) I'd like to repeat soon!

Trip to Wernigerode by Tanja, Minttu and Kaisa.

November 17.-21.2008

Monday: We went to Helsinki-Vantaa Airport at 7:40 am.

There we met our teachers and went to Germany by plane.

When we got to Germany everything felt strange because everybody talked German.

In Berlin we went to the central railway station and from there we went by train to Wernigerode.

When we got there we met our host families. After that we went to the house.

And later that night we met Minttu and Niclas, we went to cafeteria.

Tuesday: We woke up really early and then we went to Wolfsburg by bus.

In Wolfsburg was a town called Autostad. It was really cool in there, there were many cool cars and many other things. Me Tanja, and Kaisa went to by some coffee and it was really good if you put there three spoons of sugar and half cup of milk.

In Autostad we went inside of the car factory by minibus, it was really cool because you can go there only if you buy a new car.

After that we went to Phaeno that was science museum. It was great in there, there were all kinds of cool science things. After that we went home. Later in the evening we went to play pool(billiard).

Wednesday: We woke up a little later that Tuesday. After that we went to their school.

Their school was really beautiful, it was really big. At their school we did poetry.

After that we got en exercise to write different things about Wernigerode. Niclas Josi and Sylvi went to the town hall and we waited outside. After that everybody went home, and after we ate we went shopping. I bought things for me and my friends. Later that evening we went bowling.

That was very cool, I was a little nervous because many people was looking and I didn’t get the strike. But it was a nice day. Later that evening I called my friends and we talked about how was it like in Germany.

Thursday: We had to go to the mountains called Brocken.

But me and Sylvia went to the wrong train station and missed the train.

We didn’t know what to do so we went by bus to big shopping center, I bought there all kinds of stuff. When we got back we went to the big castle. There was great view and we thought about what was it like at Brocken, when it was raining and all…

Minttu and Kaisa were on the Brocken and it was not that nice. They really didn’t like it because it was cold and it was a very long way to the top. So we went back home and we ate there and all. After that we went to some bar and drank soda there. After that we went to some park and just “hang out”

Friday: We woke up early and packed our stuff and went to the train station.

We said goodbye to everybody and left. When we were on the train it started to snow. When we were in Berlin we went to some Shopping centre. After that we went to airport and flew to Finland. When we were in Finland we went home.
