Christmas in Germany - Josephine Städer, 9a
Christmas is a beautiful time for me.
On December 23rd we decorate the Christmas tree and that is the sign for the Christmas celebration which starts on 24th. In the morning we have breakfast and after that we prepare the house. After the lunch we go to the church in the afternoon. Usually my grandparents cook for us at our house, we have wonderful dinner together and long conversations until we are allowed to open the presents. They wait for us under the Christmas tree for hours and that is terrible because I can see them the whole day. On Christmas Day we can sleep long and than we have lunch at my grandparents home and go to my other grandparents in the afternoon. The 26th is the great family day. Lots of my family members meet at the restaurant “Gurke” to have lunch and after that we have a little exercise and go bowling to lose all the Christmas kilos.

I talk about Christmas in Germany
In Germany we have many things for the time before the Christmas –
Eve. We have a adventswreath with for candles. I have a advents –
calender with chocolate and many surprises. Its tradition to lit candle
every Sunday. Normally we have a Christmastree. In the morning the Chrismas Eve we all make cookes for the evening. In the afternoon, my family goes to my aunt and my uncle. There we get our presents from my aunt and my uncle. At about 6:00 o´ clock pm we go back home and then I can give my presents to my parents and my parents can give me their presents. On the first Christmas Day we eat a chicken with potato salad. In the afternoon we go to the Wernigeröder Christmas marked. On the second Christmas Day I eat Schnitzel an then I go out with my friends.

We decorate the flat but we haven´t a Christmas tree. Presents are give, it before the Christmas Eve, but we celebrate at my grandma´s house there we get the presents from my grandma. We eat sandwiches and drink alcohol and talk about the year. On next day we go to my grandpa and get some more presents.

In Germany, we have many things for the time before Christmas. For example we have , an advent calandar, advent wreath, Schwipbogen, Christmas-market, a lot of Christmas figures and a Chrstmas tree stands in the livingroom. The children write a wishpaper to Santa Claus. Every Sunday , you can lit a candle more on a advent wreath until the Christmas – Eve .Every Sunday my family and I go to the Chrismas-market and eat sweets or other delicious food. On the Christmas _Eve we go to my grandma and grandpa and then my aunt and my uncle with my little cousins. Then we all drink coffee together or the children drink cocoa or milk and we eat cakes and other sweets. When we finish, my uncle and may cousins go to church. My family and I got to my home. Then my uncle and my cousins come back from the church and then we get the presents ,we are must sing a little song or say a poem. The Christmas-Eve is a nice day. On the Boxing Day we go to my other grandma and grandpa and get again presents, but there we eat a lot of traditional Christmas food. On the third Chrismas-day we visit my uncle and my aunt. There we enjoy the Christmas-time. We play little games, it is very funny sometimes.

Christmas
I am from a little farming community in the middle of Germany. Here is in every city a Christmas market with large Christmas trees. The Christmas market opens at the 1st Advent. Every family has a Christmas tree in their house or apartment. The people in Germany decorate their home and their Christmas trees. On 24th December in Germany the people eat turkey, duck, chicken and rabbit in the evening. On the first and second Christmas Day the people in Germany like to have parties and eat in restaurants. On 24th December, on Christmas Eve, all people get their presents and are happy in the evening. The Christmas tree is put up one to three days before Christmas. The people in Germany decorate the Christmas tree with angels, Christmas balls and Santa Claus figures. They drink mulled wine and a lot of punsh with their family.

Christmas in Germany
In Germany at the 24th December is Christmas. The last four Sundays before Christmas are called “Advent”. You can buy an “Adventskalender”. This is a calender from the 1st to the 24th December and everyday you can take chocolate from it. In Germany there are also Christmas markets where you can buy some candies, “Schmalzgebäck” or “Glühwein”. At Christmas everyone gives his friends and family presents, which you have to put under the Christmas tree. A Christmas tree is a green tree which has to be decorated with Santa Claus figures and Christmas balls. Santa Claus will put presents under the Christmas tree at the 24th December. When you have been a good one you get many presents and when you haven’t been a good one you don’t get many presents. After that many people go in restaurants and eat turkey or chicken with friends and their family.

In my family, we celebrate Christmas at home with my family and my grandma. We have a big Christmas tree, it is colourful and decorates the flat. On Christmas Eve in the afternoon Santa Clause puts the presents under the Christmas tree. My sisters and I care allowed to open the presents in the evening after dinner!!! Waiting is terrible because we see the presents but can’t open them. On Christmas day we go to my uncle’s birthday. We eat a goose or raclette or fondue.
